The NBA playoffs are here. Wake me up in 2 months when it’s over.
The NBA playoffs started on April 18th and could possibly end with a game 7 in the finals on June 18th. That’s two whole months for 16 teams to figure out who is the best. Let’s start with the 16 teams there are 30 teams in the whole league. That means over 50% of the teams make the playoffs, is that really an accomplishment?
With the spread out TV friendly schedule you can typically
count on waiting 2-3 days for your team to play next. God forbid they sweep a
series you can be looking at more than a week to see them again. Baseball has
the same best of 7 format with one less round and they get it done in 26 days.
The NFL has 4 rounds like basketball and its over in 28 days.
The NBA playoffs consist of 4 best of 7 rounds. If they cut
the first round down to a best of 5 they could shave off a week. If they
allowed teams to play more than twice a week they could also relive a lot of
fan frustration. The most important step is to eliminate half of the teams that
make the playoffs. 3 teams that made the playoffs this year didn’t even finish
above .500, that’s pathetic.
