Its not even the end of May and the Dodgers have a 7 game lead in their division. They are the big fish in the small pond. The second best record in the division is the San Diego Padres who are currently 1 game above .500. They have all but given up on this season and the near future by trying to ship one of the best pitchers in the bigs and their ace Jake Peavey because they don't want to pay his salary. That was after an off-season filled with releasing all but a few of their big name players including closer and life long Padre Trevor Hoffman.
    Every other team in the division is under .500. The San Francisco Giants have one of the best pitching staffs in baseball but have catcher Benjie Molina batting clean up and they clearly don't want to do anything about their lack of scoring runs. This off-season with tons of bats available their big name free agent pick up was Edgar Renteria who is a solid #2 hitter but certainitly nothing to build a lineup around. The Rockies have the third worst record in baseball and Arizona has the fourth worst. The NL west has been a joke for a few years now and its only getting funnier.
