John Smoltz to the Cardinals.
John Smoltz will be clearing waivers later today and reportedly the Cardinals want him. They are stating that he will be their fifth starter. After Smoltz's first three starts when he gives up 15 runs they will move him to the bullpen, where he will be the setup pitcher for closer Ryan Franklin.
Smoltz clearly would rather be a starting pitcher than in the bullpen. Especially if being in the bullpen means he won't even be the closer. When he does get moved to the bully he will be very effective pitching the eighth inning for the Cards. He is one of the best pitchers ever and an absolute monster in the post season.
Once he sets his ego aside Smoltz will realize he can be a very important part of a World Series contender.
