Lou Holtz is letting his age show.

Let me start this by saying I love Lou Holtz. His pregame speeches are one of only a few reasons I continue to watch ESPN. He was a great coach and a great motivator. He took an embarrassing Notre Dame team and made them a world power winning a national title in 1988 and finishing second in 1993. He has 249 career wins and is widely regarded as one of the best coaches ever.
Recently Holtz is starting to talk crazy. He proclaimed that Notre Dame would run the table and win the national championship at the beginning of the season. The fighting Irish got smacked by a mediocre Michigan team, ruining their chances for a championship. This past Saturday they barely squeaked by a Michigan State team that lost to Central Michigan last weekend.
Holtz must surely see that his beloved team is not what he thought they would be. I guess not. While commenting on the highlights of the Irish/Spartans game Holtz proclaimed that Notre Dame has one of the best defenses in the league.
Lets check that reasoning shall we:
Notre Dame has played 3 games against Nevada, Michigan and Michigan State. All three teams are unranked with average to poor offenses. Yet Notre Dame has still managed to rank 93rd in total defense in the NCAA. 93rd!
Holtz obviously has a bias towards Notre Dame and I understand that, but how does a professional commentator sleep at night with this nonsense. Holtz is just spouting off at the mouth with claims that are inaccurate and absurd. His rants made him a great coach but unfortunately make him a terrible commentator.
